Spring 2026
A collection of seasonal excerpts from the commonplace
Essays, blogs, and other prose:
- No as a Noticeboard, Sara Ahmed
A no to an institution can be expressed through the withdrawal of labour from it. When you leave because of a complaint, you don’t just leave the problem behind. You leave a record of confronting that problem, which can be another kind of legacy although one that often has to be unburied by those who come after. Leaving also meant I was freer to express myself. And that I had left allowed other people to be freer to share with me what happened to them when they complained. Hence a no can be loosening; when one no comes out, others follow.

- notes dump 2026, Stephen Gillmurphy
sometimes it feels like videogames as a medium exist as a way not to think about things - that literalising these things into bland mechanisms is a way not to have to deal with the pain caused by their presence, or their absence.
- Our Longing for Inconvenience, Hanif Abdurraqib
What makes the madness increasingly incurable is that I want parts of the past that are increasingly incompatible with this iteration of our world. I walk through the grocery store, half smiling, with my hood up. My friend finds a VHS player but can’t connect it to any television in his house.
